Half Day Adventure Walks
Get away from busy places and spend a half day exploring the beautiful rugged back country of Mt Lyford with your Adventure guide.
Depending on weather conditions you have the following options for Adventure walks:
- Lottery River - A gentle easy walk through native bush following 2 creeks.
- Lake Stella - Walk up to this beautiful lake with it’s mystical appearance. You’ll have the choice to follow the gravel road or the bush tracks.
- Top of My Lyford - If you are up to some exercise get ready to attack Mt Lyford. You’ll follow the ridge up first through dense beech forest, then hebes and rare alpine plants ending up on rugged screes. The views on the way are exceptional. A good physical condition is required.
Full Day Adventure Walks
If you’d like a more extensive exploration of the high mountains with its beautiful views and exceptional nature, we can tailor an adventure to suit your fitness and interests.
- Extend the Lottery River walk with a canyon experience. Clamber up through the creek, find the waterfall and be amazed with mother nature’s beauty.
- Mt Tinline - The highest mountain in this range with of course the most spectacular views over the Kaikoura Ranges and the Molesworth, Mt Tinline has interesting rock formations.
- Lottery saddle - Walk to the saddle and follow the Lottery River down from its origin. Experience this untouched territory!
More Day Walks
We offer guided walks throughout the Mt Lyford area tailored to your own specification. For added interest, I like to tell something about the landscape you are walking through, its geology, history, wildlife and management.
If you do not have a particular walk in mind I am happy to recommend routes designed to introduce you to the magic of our finest landscapes and to give you insights into their development and management. We can take you off the beaten track to see some breathtaking scenery.
We can set out a tramp of more days for you depending on your level of fitness, your specific interests and the group size. We have the local knowledge so can ensure you are maximizing your mountain walking experience by using ours.
Mountain walking is suitable for all ages and abilities. It is an excellent activity for both adults and children. For younger children we start them with less physically demanding walks and can tailor the walk to meet your needs.

All walks are subject to weather conditions.
Good footwear and a jacket are necessary items for an enjoyable walk.
